Gone Too Soon – Our Friend Scott Fairfax
On November 9th, we unexpectedly lost our good friend and long-time supporter, Scott Fairfax. Scott served as a reservist in the Marines. He was very passionate about our mission. Over the last few weeks Scott was organizing the inaugural Purcellville Poker Open to benefit HeroHomes. That event will go on as planned, on March 26th, 2022. The event will be renamed The Scott Fairfax Memorial Poker Open. Scott’s family has asked that in lieu of flowers, friends consider leaving a memory of Scott on Hall Funeral Home’s Tribute Wall, and/or by donating to HeroHomes or World Central Kitchen.
Locally, I think most people knew Scott as “Mr. Tennis”. He was the heart and soul of the tennis community at his home club, Loudoun Golf & Country Club. I met him for the first time in the first round of the club championship in 2010. He beat me 6-0, 6-0 and couldn’t have been nicer about it. He found nice things to say about my game, and encouraged me to continue playing — which I have.
Scott played tennis every Sunday morning at Ida Lee in Leesburg. He had many friends in that community as well.
Make a Donation in Honor of Scott
Many of Scott’s friends will come together for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 14th at Loudoun Golf & Country Club at 36967 W. Main Street in Purcellville from 1pm – 4pm. The event is open to non-members. Please dress “Country Club casual” in honor of Scott (men are required to wear collared shirts). There will be a memory-sharing hour at 2pm.
HeroHomes is a 501(c)3 not for profit foundation established to build houses for those who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy for others. These deserving vets and their families cannot regain what they lost defending our country, but we can give them a new start in building a solid foundation for their future and the dignity of an independent life in a wonderful small town community setting. We provide the opportunity for disabled veterans to rejoin society with the security and pride of home ownership.
