Hero Home #6 – Rubart House
Home for First Sergeant Zachary Rubart (Ret.) & Colleen Rubart
Round Hill, Virginia
First Sergeant Zachary Rubart (Ret.) dedicated 22 years to the United States Marine Corps, serving in some of the most demanding and elite assignments in the military. He deployed three times to combat zones — twice to Fallujah, Iraq (including Operation Phantom Fury), and once to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In 2006, Zach was wounded by an IED, sustaining shrapnel injuries across his body. Just sixteen days later, he returned to combat — a testament to his courage and unwavering resolve.
Throughout his career, Zach served as Chief Instructor of Anti-Armor at the School of Infantry, led Scout Sniper and Javelin teams in combat, advised foreign militaries, and held prestigious leadership posts at Marine Barracks Washington, the White House Communications Agency, and Camp David. During the 2013 Washington Navy Yard shooting, Zach led a quick reaction force to secure senior military officials — still wearing his ceremonial Marine Corps sword — embodying leadership under fire. His awards include the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, multiple Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with “V” for valor, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Today, Zach is a 100% disabled veteran who continues to serve others through mentorship and veteran advocacy. He and his wife, Colleen, along with their children Ava and Liam, are building their next chapter in Round Hill.
Working alongside Zach and Colleen on Project #6 was a powerful reminder of why HeroHomes exists. From day one, this project was about more than building a house — it was about honoring service with action.
Throughout the process, the Rubart family experienced the integrity, transparency, and genuine care that define the HeroHomes mission. As Zach shared, “This wasn’t just about building a house — it was about being cared for, respected, and supported every step of the way.” Our General Contractor Partner, CaseCo, delivered a thoughtfully designed, beautifully built home — but what stands out most is the heart behind it.
This is what it looks like to support those who have carried extraordinary responsibility on behalf of our nation.
This is what it means to build with gratitude.
This is why we build.
